. About Our Council

Our council was formed in 1955 by a group of 67 charter members. Our first Grand Knight was Leo Freund in 1955. Since that time we have had 46 different Grand Knights leading the Council. Our current GK is George Simsonsen. The council was originally made up of members from St Ann's parish in Barrington, but soon had members from Lake Zurich's St Francis and Cary/Fox River Grove's STS Peter & Paul Parishes. In 195? the council bought the property at 135 Kelsey Rd, which was a farm at the time. With many years and hours of hard work, the members turned what was a cow barn into a multiple use hall. The 'Barn' was comprised of the upper floor which had a hardwood floor from one end to the other with a full width (36') bar at one end and wash rooms on the second and third levels. The lower level of the 'Barn' where the cow stalls were was turned into a two level meeting room. All of the Council's meetings were held in this room as were those of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Fourth Degree meetings. There was also a members only bar on the lower level which was used during the week and after many of the meetings.

Over the years, the council grew larger and stronger in the community. They decided in the 60's that another 'Barn' was needed as the activities of the council such that they were out of room in the original 'Barn'. A second barn was built at the end of the original barn. The upper level was similar to the original barn in that it had a full width bar and a hard wood dance floor. The lower level was designed and built as a members lounge. This became the place to meet and greet old and new members.

As time went on, things changed and the council found it harder to support the 10+acres of land and the two aging buildings. A committee was formed to determine the best course of action for the Council. It was determine that we could sell the existing property and with the funds build another building that could be used to support the council through the sales of office condominiums. The Council would have a section of the new building for themselves and the rest would be condos and some rental units.
